Car Heaven Program
GM Programs > Car Heaven Program
The Clean Air Foundation developed the Car Heaven program in July 2000, to accelerate the retirement of old, higher-polluting vehicles and to promote a shift to new, cleaner and more efficient technologies.
Car Heaven operates across Canada and offers potential donors the free tow of their retired vehicle (valued at $200), a charitable tax receipt from a charity of their choice (minimum $50), and the guarantee that their old vehicle is recycled in an environmentally responsible manner. In addition, if your vehicle is a 1995 model or older and still on the road, you may be eligible to receive $750 towards the purchase of a new GM vehicle.
While the early retirement of older cars is not new, Car Heaven is unique because of its ability to successfully engage motorists to retire their old, higher polluting vehicles sooner than they normally would.
To date, Car Heaven has engaged over 70,000 motorists across Canada to retire their old clunkers.
Earn your wings
The Car Heaven program was created to clear the roads of older, high-polluting vehicles by recycling them responsibly and making way for a cleaner environment. By bringing an eligible, older car to a GM dealer or retailer, you receive $1000* towards the purchase or lease of a new GM vehicle.
An Inspired Relationship
General Motors of Canada has been working with the Clean Air Foundation as the exclusive automotive sponsor of Car Heaven, which is a testament to GM's commitment to the environment and leadership in creating environmentally friendly technologies in the automotive industry.
In their first year working together, Car Heaven received three times as much participation as it did in the previous year. GM also helped make the program available in every province as Car Heaven spread its message throughout the country.
Recent success
In 2007, Car Heaven won the Gold Award for Climate Change at the Canadian Environmental Awards and GM was presented with the Waste Minimization Award from the Recycling Council of Ontario.
GM of Canada and the Clean Air Foundation also received the Pyramid Award of Recognition from the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) for their work on Car Heaven. This is the first time the award was given to a non-governmental organization and it's a great indication of how successful this relationship has been and of how many people have taken notice.
